<itunes:summary>Gerald Short aka Jazzman Gerald played recently for us in RiRa (Dublin) to a great crowd and we had a blast that night - there were a lot of requests for a podcast from the Jazzman's vaults and we just got this mix straight from the man himself. A really nice blend of 60s Rhythm and Blues, this is a great reminder of what R&B actually is. Toe-tapping goodness from the record collection of the man behind one of the best reissue funk and soul labels around today. By the way, if you're fiending for some freshly reissued funk you can't go wrong with the new Jazzman Records compilation Sister Funk 2 (compiled by DJ Ian Wright). This comp is outstanding and a great example of what Jazzman Records get up to on a regular basis. Don't sleep!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>DJ Krime from Poland drops a serious blend of Soul and Funk neatly put together with a sprinkling of HipHop</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>DJ Krime is no unknown in his native Poland having made a name for himself as a talented DJ there over the last 10 years. He has made many visits to Ireland to play in clubs, judge at various ITF competitions held here and has built up a steady crew of supporters from the Polish community in Ireland. The blend of music here is seamlessly put together with a true hiphop-flavoured approach but it's straight up soul and funk with a small lacing of the tunes that originally sampled these all-time classics to make some of the most memorable hiphop tracks of the last 15 years. Great stuff.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>Jugglin' and RawFussion labelhead has knocked this mix together in anticipation of his December 06 Dublin appearance...</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>As the brains behind stockholm based RawFusion records and Jugglin' records and the man responsible for so much goodness on GAMM, sweden's Mad Mats is at the forefront of scandanavia's emergence as a hotbed of musical talent. Mad Mats music endeavours started in the mid 80?s when he left his break dancing career (swedish champ 1985!) to become a hip hop and scratch dj at the early hip hop jams in Stockholm. In the early/mid 90?s he was the producer of a hip hop, jazz and soul unit called Boogaloo which had great success, especially in Japan where they sold over 30, 000 albums. In 1999 the Fusion imprint released a compilation called 'Fusion A Soul Classics Collection' which was compiled by Mats himself. The record was mainly sold within Sweden but still managed to sell around 9000 units even though the musical message was far from commercially compromised. The label has now grown into an independent record label, which is simply called Raw Fusion Recordings but is now run by Mats himself. Just like the club the label display's a wide mixture of dance rhythms but always with that extra soulful approach. This podcast shows you the vibe Mats is on and also features some of Raw Fussion and Jugglin's artists.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In 1983 Tommy Boy Records held a promotional contest in which entrants were asked to remix the single Play That Beat, Mr. D.J. by G.L.O.B.E. and Whiz Kid (members of Afrika Bambaataa's Soulsonic Force). Steinski, along with his partner in crime Double Dee, beat the competition and claimed first place in what has now become a little piece of hiphop history. Their contest entry, Lesson 1 - the Payoff Mix was packed with sampled appropriations from other records - not only from early Hip-Hop records and from Funk and Disco records that were popular with Hip-Hop DJs, but with short snippets of older songs by Little Richard and the Supremes, along with vocal samples from sources as diverse as instructional tap-dancing records and Humphrey Bogart films. Lessons Two and Three soon followed and by this stage the records had become favorites of DJs such as CutChemist and DJ Shadow. Steinski has remained active in recent years, doing occasional remix work and longer old-school mixes as well as DJ'ing regularly in Europe and the UK using a laptop and midi gear. This podcast is a little taster of what to expect at the Steinski show in Dublin in November 2006.</itunes:summary>

He has also licensed music to Sony in the form of some of the best tracks on the Grand Theft Auto soundtrack and plays some of the funkiest loops, breaks and remixes you are likely to hear in a club. Pablo (Micheal Hunter) has visited us in Dublin twice and killed it both times behind the turntables. This mix shows off his own inimitable style in both production and DJing - well worth checking out. At just under 30mins it's short but it's sweet!

<itunes:summary>After representing Ireland at the Red Bull Music Academy in Rome in 2004 the RBMA team were kind enough to invite Rizm over to the Sonar festival in Barcelona in 2006 to spin at Sonar By Day. A nice blend of samples, live edits and great tunes, Rizm dropped this one on a sunny saturday afternoon in the middle of June just two days into the festival with an intense hangover as he was on a rollover from the night before when Shadow and Kenny Dope kept most of the crowd up till the early hours of the morning. This was our summer mixtape of '06 with some great HipHop, Soul and Funk making an appearance alongside Rizm's own interesting edits and cut 'n' paste mixes. Enjoy...</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Tru-Thoughts have been making a name for themselves of late as a trailblazing independent label that are setting the trend in the U.K. for how a label should be run. We've worked with a few of their artists in the past like Quantic and Alice Russell so we are delighted to bring you this mix from Rob Luis which we are sure you'll enjoy. We had Rob over to Ireland along with Will Holland (aka Quantic) when we booked Alice Russell and her band to play a huge show as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival 2005 in the temporarily errected Spiegeltent venue in the beautiful surroundings of the newly developed Dublin Docklands. This was a stormer of a show and we asked Rob if he could hook us up with a podcast. Not surprisingly he delivered the goods - this in an hour of really quality music so hit that download link!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Well known in Ireland and beyond DJ Mek has reached almost legendary status amongst HipHop fans and club-goers over the last 15 years in Ireland. Reviled by animal lovers for his intense hatred of crows and his bloodline that is directly related to the Alabama Leprechaun (according to his MySpace account at least) Mek has firmly established himself as the longest running HipHop DJ in Ireland - and when we say HipHop we mean the proper sense of the word. He could rock a party with doubles of sandpaper if he had to and these skills transfer over to the mixtape format perfectly. Of course they would considering the endless amount of DJ battle titles he has stuffed under his poncho. Sleep on this mix and you're missing a piece of the puzzle...</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>Monkone drops the best Funk 45s in about 45 mins - Nice!</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Wax Poetics scribe, genius DJ, WBAI FM's Underground Railroad radio DJ, astute record collector and progressive producer, MONKONE serves up a tasty array of funk in neat 45 minute package taiored especially for the ChoiceCuts followers. This is heavy enough to move the crowd and intricate enough to wow the DJs. Monk (aka Andrew Mason) has been over to Ireland a few times now and when we didn't have him zipping between venues and taking quick snapshots of Phil Lynott's statue (who he cites as a huge influence) he was delivering some seriously impressive tunes to the dancefloor in the Sugarclub and in RiRa. Also king of the mixtapes in NYC check out his pretty incredible 'Monk's Dream' mix which is so well put together it's earned Monk One a spot in the Mixtape Hall of Fame (which we just inaugerated in the last sentence).</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Marc Hype has played with us a few times and has donated this little mix of brand new funk aided by keyboardist Jim Dunloop. Skull Snaps starts it off and in a perfect way because Hype works in some absolute stompers with Jim playing keys perfectly over the mix which adds tremendously to the crescendos and quitely helps along the more funk-laiden elements of the mix. Ever since we heard the Funkvergnugen mixes that Hype hooked up with fellow DJ Katmando we've been big fans of Hype and after listening to this mix it'll be easy to see why he's one of Germany's best (and deepest) DJs.</itunes:summary>
